It's official, the Hornet wrestlers are the 2A state champions for the third year in a row. Declo scored 176.5 team points to beat a tough Melba team who scored 156 points. Kage Osterhout picked up his second state championship title, pinning every opponent in the first period. Declo had nine wrestlers place in the top six, including three runner-up finishes by Stirland Zollinger, Josh Phillips, and Jason Gillette. The Hornets' other top finishers were John Nunnelee (third at 126), Blaine Phillips (sixth at 132), Brad Payne (sixth at 160), Drexton Thrall (third at 195), and Ty Loveland (sixth at 195). For the fourth year in a row, the Hornet wrestlers are District Champions and are the reigning two-time state champions! The team finished the season with 32 dual wins and 1 loss. State qualifiers will start wrestling Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. in Holt Arena. Wrestling will continue Saturday at 9:00 a.m. with finals at 3:30 p.m. The wrestlers are coached by Lawrence Gillette, Lance Gillette, and Ian Webb. On Monday, February 18th the Declo boys basketball team beat the Valley Vikings 46-29 making them the Class 2A District IV Champions. They are now headed to state, playing the first game at 1:15 pm, Thursday, February 28th at Capital High School. Their current season record is 17-6 with Kai Garner leading the team with 14 ppg and 4 apg. Kyle Heward led the team with 8.3 rpg.
The JV team was also conference champions ending up 11-3 at the end of this season. Head Coach Val Christensen, Assistant Coaches Bret Johnson (Assistant Varsity), Kyle Carpenter ("C" Team Coach), Kelly Mangum (JV Coach), and the community are very proud of the boys for working as hard as they have to go to state. Everyone wishes the boys luck as they head to Boise to bring home the blue. GO DECLO BOYS! |

We also had multiple state awards for individuals in BPA and FFA. This fall Mark Hurst and Hayden Gibby were nominated to the all Northwest Band.
